On Wednesday, the Shasta County Coroner’s Office revealed the identity of the man who was reportedly killed by a teenager earlier this week in Redding.
The victim, John Louis Douglas, a 55-year-old resident of Redding, was found lifeless on a couch behind a Lake Boulevard business. He had been allegedly struck to death by a 15-year-old with a baseball bat, according to local authorities.
The coroner had withheld Douglas’s name until they could inform his family. The grim discovery was made around 5:45 a.m. Monday by a security guard, who found Douglas with severe head and facial trauma.
Security footage from the business revealed a young male assaulting Douglas with a baseball bat while he was asleep.
Following the release of the video, police located a 15-year-old boy matching the suspect’s description in the vicinity.
The teenager was initially taken to the Redding police detectives division and later transferred to juvenile hall, where he was charged with murder and committing a felony while armed.
