Fatal Hungry Horse Reservoir drowning death of Randel Gilpin – Obituary
On Wednesday, Flathead County Sheriff Brian Heino confirmed the recovery of Randel Gilpin’s body, who tragically drowned in Hungry Horse Reservoir on Monday.
Gilpin, 63, from Bigfork, vanished on Monday afternoon after falling overboard while fishing. Sheriff Heino reported that Gilpin had jumped into the water to retrieve his fishing pole but did not resurface.
A dive team later found his body submerged in 23 feet of water near Wounded Buck Creek.
Authorities are still searching for another missing person from the reservoir. Emily Rea, a 33-year-old woman, disappeared on July 16 while paddleboarding. Despite the efforts of rescuers using boat-operated underwater vehicles, locating Rea remains challenging due to the lake’s deep and murky areas.
