Fatal Kaohsiung Internet Cafe Binge Death of Hsieh – Obituary

A 32-year-old Taiwanese man has died following an extended gaming session at an Internet cafe in Kaohsiung, marking the second such incident this year. The man, known by the family name Hsieh, was discovered lifeless in his chair at the cafe.

Initially, other customers assumed he was merely sleeping. However, once an employee noticed that he wasn’t breathing, he was promptly transported to a hospital where he was declared dead. Medical professionals determined that Hsieh had suffered from cardiac failure due to an extended period of gaming, labeling it a “sudden death.”

According to the employee, Hsieh was a frequent visitor who would often play for days on end. He typically rested by sleeping face-down on the table or slumping in his chair when tired, which initially led to his condition going unnoticed.

The specific game Hsieh was engaged in at the time of his death has not been disclosed, only described broadly as “combat computer games.”

This incident follows a similar case earlier this year, where a 38-year-old man was found dead at an Internet cafe in New Taipei City after a five-day video game marathon. In both cases, witnesses at the scene appeared indifferent, continuing to play games even as investigators worked to gather evidence.
