Fatal Macomb shooting death of Anthony T. George – Obituary
Illinois State Police’s preliminary investigation into a shooting involving Macomb police Saturday night reveals that a 57-year-old man, Anthony T. George, and a 4-year-old child were tragically killed by a police officer.
According to ISP, officers were responding to a domestic disturbance at an apartment complex in Macomb when they encountered a male suspect armed with a knife. The suspect had left the scene, only to return later holding the child and a knife to the child’s throat.
The officer discharged their weapon, resulting in the deaths of both the suspect and the child.
The McDonough County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the identity of the man as Anthony T. George, though the child’s name has not been released.
ISP has engaged with the families of both the suspect and the child as part of their investigation and will submit all gathered evidence to the McDonough County State’s Attorney’s Office. The Macomb Police Department requested ISP’s assistance in investigating the incident.
In accordance with departmental protocol, the officers involved have been placed on leave.
