LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Anchorage Middletown Fire and EMS officials announced that firefighter Christian Smith, who tragically lost his life at Barren River Lake, was always committed to helping others.
On Monday, department spokesperson Jordan Yuodis confirmed that Sgt. Smith drowned while swimming at Barren River Lake in southern Kentucky, roughly 100 miles from Bowling Green.
At 35 years old, Smith had served with Anchorage Middletown Fire since 2014 and was part of Rescue Company 33.
Smith was cherished for his servant’s heart and passion for teaching and collaborating with his team. Capt. Brian Lowry remarked on the profound loss his passing leaves behind.
“Christian was a dedicated husband, firefighter, and person overall. He will be deeply missed,” Lowry stated. “Our heartfelt condolences go out from our department to his family and loved ones. We are grateful for the community’s support during these challenging times.”
