Dashawn Harris, 17, from Southeast D.C., tragically lost his life in a fatal car crash that occurred in Southeast D.C. on Tuesday.
The incident involved a silver BMW sedan, which was being pursued by the United States Park Police and Anne Arundel County police due to its connection with multiple robbery cases.
The vehicle, under high-speed pursuit, lost control shortly after 12:30 p.m. on Southern Avenue, SE.
It mounted the sidewalk, struck a tree with such force that it split in half, and the front section came to a halt against an iron fence.
Koger, the 19-year-old suspect from Southeast D.C., was ejected from the car and attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended. Sadly, Harris was pronounced dead at the scene, along with another unidentified occupant whose identity is still being confirmed by the D.C. Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and MPD investigators.
Justin Mulcahy, spokesperson for the Anne Arundel County Police Department, mentioned that there have been numerous recent cases of “jugging,” where criminals target individuals withdrawing cash from banks or ATMs. While it’s unclear if the BMW was involved in such a crime on the day of the crash, authorities have been intensifying their efforts to address these incidents.
The BMW was later identified as being linked to an armed robbery. Anne Arundel County police are investigating the robberies, while D.C. police are leading the crash investigation. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the police at 202-727-9099.
