Fatal Basin car crash claims the life of Jason Sullivan – Obituary
Jason Sullivan, a 50-year-old resident of Basin, Montana, tragically lost his life in a head-on collision involving a wrong-way driver on I-90, as reported by the Broadwater County Sheriff’s Office.
According to a statement by Sheriff Rauser, the incident occurred early Wednesday morning at 7:19 a.m., when a witness observed a vehicle, driven by Askins, executing a U-turn and then traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of the interstate. Multiple reports of a wrong-way driver were made to authorities shortly thereafter.
Just four minutes after the initial report, a head-on collision was reported at mile marker 272. Sadly, both Jason Sullivan and Askins were pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash also involved two dogs that were in Askins’ vehicle. One of the dogs sustained injuries so severe that it had to be euthanized, while the other survived and is now in the process of being adopted after receiving treatment.
The Montana Highway Patrol, alongside the Broadwater County Sheriff’s Office, is continuing their investigation into the crash. Authorities urge anyone with further information to reach out to either agency at 406-266-3441.
Sheriff Rauser expressed his condolences to the families of both men and thanked all the first responders and organizations involved in the incident, including Three Forks Fire, Three Forks Ambulance, Willow Creek Fire, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office, Montana Highway Patrol, Department of Transportation, Ron’s Diesel, Hardaway Vet Clinic, and Heart of the Valley.
