Peter Hughes, a Spitfire pilot, tragically lost his life in a plane crash at Enstone Airfield, located on Banbury Road, around 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 28. Hughes was flying a replica Spitfire when the incident occurred shortly after take-off.
Thames Valley Police responded to the scene, but the 71-year-old pilot, who was alone in the aircraft, was pronounced dead at the site.
This week, many have paid tribute to Hughes, affectionately known as ‘Pete,’ with friends leaving moving messages in his honor.
