Fatal Three Forks crash claims the lives of Robert Askins and Jason Sullivan – Obituary
On Thursday, Broadwater County Sheriff Nick Rauser identified the two men who were killed in a head-on collision on Interstate 90 near Three Forks on July 31, 2024.
Sheriff Rauser reported that Robert Askins, a 56-year-old from Spokane, Washington, was driving the wrong-way vehicle involved in the crash. Askins collided with Jason Sullivan, a 50-year-old resident of Basin, Montana, as stated in a post on the Broadwater County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.
According to the sheriff, the incident began at 7:19 a.m. on Wednesday when a witness observed Askins making a U-turn while heading eastbound on I-90, after which he continued driving westbound in the eastbound lane. Several other witnesses also called in to report a vehicle driving the wrong way on the interstate.
Approximately four minutes later, authorities received a report of a head-on collision at mile marker 272. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
Sheriff Rauser also mentioned that two dogs were found in Askins’ vehicle. One of the dogs, due to the severity of its injuries, had to be euthanized, while the other survived and is now being adopted.
