Fatal Bowenfels Road Accident Claims Young Life of Korbin Reid – Obituary
The tragic death of 13-year-old Korbin Reid, who was fatally struck while crossing the Great Western Highway in Bowenfels with his father and older brother, has left his New South Wales family devastated and in mourning.
Korbin, who was enjoying a routine outing on his electric scooter with his family, was struck by a vehicle on Friday evening. His brother Zack, 24, described the harrowing scene, recounting the moment he saw Korbin lying injured on the road.
“He was face down on the pavement. I immediately knelt beside him and supported his head on my leg,” Zack recounted. “After calling his name, he started to show slight signs of consciousness with some shallow breathing and shivering.”
The family had been about a kilometer from a traffic light when they decided to cross the highway. Though they initially saw no oncoming cars, Zack reported that a vehicle seemed to appear suddenly and hit Korbin.
Korbin was quickly transported to Lithgow Hospital and then transferred to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, where he unfortunately passed away.
According to NSW Police, the 45-year-old driver involved in the incident underwent mandatory testing, but no charges have been filed as of yet.
Zack shared that this loss is particularly painful for their father, who has already suffered the death of another child. “My brother Logan passed away from SIDS when he was just two months old,” Zack said. “Now, my father faces the heartache of burying another son, and it’s taking a severe toll on him.”
The Reid family is well-known in the Lithgow area, with Korbin’s mother actively involved in the SES and St Vincent de Paul. The local community has rallied to honor Korbin’s memory and support his family during this difficult time.
Zack remembered Korbin as a vibrant and positive individual, always bringing joy and laughter to those around him. To assist the grieving family, loved ones have established an online fundraiser.
Zack mentioned that his parents are struggling with the overwhelming task of planning their son’s funeral amidst their profound grief.
