Aaron Jones, 26, was the Director of Bands at Sullivan High School and an esteemed alumnus of the EIU School of Music.
The Eastern Illinois University Department of Music shared the somber news on Facebook: “With profound sorrow, we announce the sudden and tragic loss of Aaron Jones. He was an outstanding individual, educator, student, and friend. Our hearts are with his family, friends, and students during this difficult time.”
Central Illinois educational leaders also extended their condolences.
Charles Brown, Principal of Central A&M High School, wrote on Facebook: “Raider Nation extends our prayers to our friends in Sullivan. The loss of a staff member impacts any school and community deeply. Please know we stand with you in your grief.”

SULLIVAN, Ill. (WCIA) — The Moultrie County Coroner has confirmed the identity of the individual who died in the crash on Illinois 121 early Monday morning.
Coroner Lynn Reed reported to WCIA that Aaron Jones, 26, from Mattoon, was declared deceased at the crash site at 3:27 a.m.

SULLIVAN, Ill. (WCIA) — Illinois State Police reported they were dispatched to the site of the fatal crash early Monday morning.
The Moultrie County Sheriff’s Office initially responded to the incident before requesting Illinois State Police for further investigation.
The collision occurred shortly before 2:30 a.m., involving a head-on crash between a Ford pickup and a Ford sedan.
One driver was confirmed dead at the scene, while the other driver was taken to a local hospital with injuries.
Illinois 121 remains closed near the Kaskaskia River bridge. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.
SULLIVAN, Ill. (WCIA) – The highway in Moultrie County remains closed Monday morning following the crash on Route 121.
State Police indicated that the incident took place at County Road 1150 N Rd., near the Kaskaskia River bridge connecting Sullivan and Allenville.
The road will remain shut while the investigation continues.
