Fatal Pontoon Beach highway crash death of Barry McGrew – Obituary
Three individuals from Granite City lost their lives in two separate accidents on highways near Pontoon Beach, as reported by St. Louis news outlets.
According to Fox2, the first incident took place on Illinois Route 111, just south of the Interstate 270 interchange, around 8:50 p.m. on Saturday.
Fox2 reported that a pedestrian, Barry McGrew, 69, was crossing the highway westbound while pushing a bicycle when he was hit by a southbound GMC van. McGrew was transported to a nearby hospital but unfortunately did not survive his injuries.
Approximately an hour later, another collision occurred on Illinois Route 111 at Timberlake Drive. KMOV-4 reported that Cole and Morgan Whitford, both 29, were riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound when their bike collided with the front driver’s side of a Chrysler Pacifica van.
The van was making a left turn onto Route 111 from Timberlake. The Whitfords were thrown from their motorcycle and rushed to the hospital, where they both passed away.
