Fatal Oklahoma City murder-suicide death of Jonathon Candy – Obituary
In a heartbreaking incident, 42-year-old Jonathon Candy was found dead in an apparent murder-suicide that also claimed the lives of his wife, Lindsay Candy, and their three children.
The tragedy unfolded early Monday morning when the couple’s 10-year-old son discovered the deceased family members.
According to the Oklahoma City Police Department, Jonathon Candy fatally shot his wife, Lindsay, and then went through the house, killing their three sons: 18-year-old Dylan, 14-year-old Ethan, and 12-year-old Lucas, before taking his own life. The reason why the 10-year-old was spared remains unknown.
Neighbor Michael Burcham expressed his shock over the event, recalling the Candy family’s friendly nature. “The kids were really nice, and everyone loved them. They used to swim here and play with my dog,” Burcham shared with local station KOCO.
Master Sgt. Gary Knight from the Oklahoma Police Department described the scene as a “massacre,” stating that Jonathon Candy methodically went through the home, committing the heinous acts. He added that the motive behind the shootings is still unclear.
Candy, who worked part-time for the Oklahoma City Thunder basketball team, had attended a game just hours before the incident, according to family and local residents.
A cousin of Jonathon, who chose to remain unnamed, expressed the family’s devastation in a statement. “Our whole family is shattered and confused, with questions we’ll never have answers to.
Jonathon was known for his jokes and his goofy attitude that made everyone smile. His wife and children were his whole life, and we can’t understand what led to this tragedy. Please hold your loved ones close,” the cousin said.
Burcham remembered Jonathon as a devoted family man, noting that he and his children always appeared to have a strong bond.
The Oklahoma City Police Department reported that they had no prior interactions with the Candy family and there was no known history of domestic violence. Mustang Public Schools Superintendent Charles Bradley confirmed that two of the victims were students in their district, while another had recently graduated. He described the school community’s response as “shocked and heartbroken,” emphasizing that the tragedy is difficult to comprehend.
