The tragic shooting death of Markaz Moye in Hattiesburg, Mississippi – Obituary
Early Sunday morning, 31-year-old Markaz Moye from Hattiesburg lost his life after being shot in the 600 block of Eastside Avenue.
Hattiesburg police received a report of the shooting at approximately 1:45 a.m. When they arrived at the scene, they discovered Moye suffering from a gunshot wound.
First responders quickly attended to Moye, and he was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Social media posts from friends and acquaintances describe Moye as a “real stand-up guy” and someone whose name was “never heard in a bad light.”
Moye’s passing occurred less than two months after the fatal shooting of Southern Miss football player Marcus “MJ” Daniels, who was killed outside his apartment on U.S. 49.
In connection with Moye’s death, Hattiesburg police have arrested 36-year-old Garry Christopher Rogers, also from Hattiesburg. Rogers has been charged with first-degree murder and tampering with physical evidence. The circumstances leading up to the shooting are still unclear.
Rogers is currently being held at the Forrest County Jail, awaiting his initial court appearance.
