Fatal Lincoln pedestrian accident death of Rico Benavidez – Obituary
The Lincoln Police Department has confirmed the identity of the 25-year-old man who lost his life following a crash on Sunday morning. Rico Benavidez, a Crete resident, was hit by a Toyota GR86 around 1 a.m. at the intersection of Denton Road and First Street.
Emergency responders from the Lincoln Fire and Rescue provided immediate assistance at the scene. Despite their efforts, Benavidez was transported to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
According to Lincoln Police Department spokesperson Erika Thomas, the incident occurred when the Toyota, driven by Durham Parker of Lincoln, was traveling westbound on Denton Road. The driver swerved left to avoid another pedestrian but unfortunately struck Benavidez. The crash report indicates Parker was driving at an estimated speed of 55 to 60 mph.
Authorities suggest that Benavidez and the other pedestrian were outside a designated crossing area when the collision happened.
