The Allen County Coroner’s Office has officially identified the driver who lost his life in a crash early Sunday morning along Wells Street in Fort Wayne.
The crash occurred around 8 a.m. near the intersection of Wells Street and Wallywood Avenue, close to the Allen County Juvenile Center. According to witnesses, the vehicle veered off the road and overturned.
Emergency responders declared the driver dead at the scene. Detectives from the Fort Wayne Police Department indicated that speed likely played a role in the crash.
On Tuesday, the coroner’s office confirmed the identity of the driver as 20-year-old Robert James Burnett IV of Fort Wayne. His death has been classified as an accident, marking the 22nd traffic-related fatality in the area this year.
