Enrique Parra, 44, of Alamosa, tragically succumbed to gunshot wounds he sustained on Thursday evening near the intersection of 17th and State Avenue in Alamosa. The Alamosa County Coroner, Joe Dzuris, identified Parra and confirmed his death was ruled a homicide.

According to reports from the Valley Courier, officers from the Alamosa Police Department (APD) responded to a call about gunfire shortly after 6 p.m. on Thursday. Parra was then transported to the San Luis Valley Health Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The following day, authorities arrested 33-year-old Larry Chavez of Alamosa in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Chavez was charged with second-degree murder and theft, with the U.S. Marshals and the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office assisting in the apprehension, according to APD Chief George Dingfelder.
