Fatal Los Angeles County car crash death of Isaac Maestas and Jordan Phillips – Obituary
On Monday afternoon, Ceyontay Bell, 24, also from Bakersfield, was involved in a tragic single-vehicle accident on the northbound 5 Freeway near Castaic.
The crash was reported around 4:29 p.m., prompting the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in Newhall to respond to the scene.
Emergency responders arrived to find a 2001 Toyota Avalon with four passengers. According to preliminary reports, Bell was driving southbound on the 5 Freeway at a high speed when he made an unsafe maneuver.
This caused the vehicle to veer off the road, hit an ascending dirt embankment, become airborne, and finally come to a stop about 50 feet down the embankment.
The collision led to the closure of two right lanes on the southbound 5 Freeway for roughly six hours as investigators worked at the scene. In addition to Bell, Maestas and Phillips died at the location.
The fourth occupant, a man from Bakersfield estimated to be between 25 and 30 years old, was transported to Henry Mayo Hospital in critical condition. His current status is not available to the media.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Officer C. Penza or Officer Josh Greengard at the CHP Newhall Area Office at (661) 600-1600.
