Fatal Eagle Pass crash death of Joanna Martinez and family – Obituary
The fatal accident occurred around 8 p.m. on Tuesday when a 2019 FedEx box truck, heading eastbound on US 57 near Eagle Pass, crashed into a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe traveling westbound.
According to reports from the Texas Department of Public Safety and local media, the FedEx truck drifted into the opposite lane and collided head-on with the SUV shortly after 7:50 p.m.
Joanna Martinez, 34, along with her family members Jose Martinez, 71; Noemi Jimenez Martinez, 61; and Samantha Martinez, 25, were pronounced dead at the scene.
A 10-year-old girl, whose name has not been disclosed, was taken to Fort Duncan Medical Center but died from her injuries on the way there.
The driver of the FedEx truck was also injured and taken to Fort Duncan Medical Center.
FedEx has released a statement expressing their sorrow: “We are deeply saddened by this tragic accident and extend our heartfelt condolences to the affected families. Safety is paramount, and we are working closely with investigators.”
The Texas Department of Public Safety is still investigating the incident. The Independent has requested further details from the Texas DPS.
