Kayla Kieko Black dies in fatal Perris skydiving accident

Fatal Perris skydiving accident death of Kayla Kieko Black – Obituary

Kayla Kieko Black, 28, tragically lost her life following a skydiving accident in the Inland Empire on August 2. Her death was confirmed by her father, Bill Black, after she succumbed to her injuries at a Riverside County hospital on Sunday.

Kayla and her skydiving instructor, Devrey LaRiccia Chase, also 28, encountered a pair of “dust devils” during a routine jump in Perris.

According to Chase’s husband, Freddy, who is also an experienced skydiver, the first dust devil was narrowly avoided by Kayla, but the second one caught her, causing her canopy to spiral downward uncontrollably from about 25 to 30 feet in the air.

Both Kayla and Devrey were unable to recover from the unexpected air disturbance and struck the ground with force. They were immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where Devrey passed away on Friday, followed by Kayla on Sunday.

Kayla, a resident of Buena Park, had been working as a server at Niko Niko Japanese Restaurant in La Habra for nearly nine years.

She had recently begun a new job at Benihana in Anaheim, where she quickly made an impact with her warm and vibrant personality, as noted by her father.

Her future plans included renovating an RV to travel and work remotely, embracing the freedom to live wherever she desired.
