Fatal Eagle Pass crash death of Samantha Martinez and family – Obituary
The tragic collision happened around 8 p.m. on Tuesday when a 2019 FedEx box truck traveling eastbound on US 57 outside of Eagle Pass struck a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe going westbound.
As reported by the Texas Department of Public Safety and local media, the FedEx truck crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with the SUV shortly after 7:50 p.m.
Samantha Martinez, 25, along with her relatives Jose Martinez, 71; Noemi Jimenez Martinez, 61; and Joanna Martinez, 34, were declared dead at the crash site.
A 10-year-old girl, whose identity has not yet been revealed, was transported to Fort Duncan Medical Center but succumbed to her injuries before reaching the hospital.
The FedEx truck driver, who sustained injuries, was also taken to Fort Duncan Medical Center.
FedEx issued a statement expressing their condolences: “We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident. Our thoughts are with the families and friends who have lost loved ones. Safety is our top priority, and we are cooperating fully with the authorities.”
The cause of the crash is under investigation by Texas DPS troopers. The Independent is seeking additional information from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
