Fatal Waianae Boat Harbor shooting death of Cheylo Chong Tim – Obituary

A man in his 30s, identified as Cheylo Chong Tim, was tragically killed in a shooting at the Waianae Boat Harbor. The Honolulu Police Department (HPD) and the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) were dispatched to the scene at the 85-400 block of Farrington Highway following several 911 calls reporting the incident around 11 a.m.

Upon arrival, HFD personnel discovered Tim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite their efforts to revive him and subsequent intervention by Honolulu Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Tim was declared dead at the scene.

Family members at the location confirmed Tim’s identity. Meanwhile, police received a description of the suspect’s vehicle from witnesses. Officers pursued the vehicle, which eventually crashed near Waianae Comprehensive Center. The suspect fled on foot but was apprehended shortly after on a nearby beach.

HPD revealed that the 25-year-old suspect, who had been involved in an ongoing dispute with the victim, was apprehended following the crash. Both Waianae Intermediate and Waianae High Schools were placed on “soft lockdown” as a precaution but resumed normal operations by noon.
