Nora Villanueva Campanor, 30, was identified by the Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner on Tuesday following a fatal shooting in Lancaster.
The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday at the intersection of East Avenue H and Challenger Way, where Campanor was found dead at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Preliminary reports indicate that the shooting followed a confrontation at a Lancaster residence about 15 minutes earlier. The alleged shooter had fired a shot into a man’s home during this altercation, though no injuries were reported.
The suspect and Campanor, who are believed to have been estranged partners, subsequently left the residence in Campanor’s vehicle. They eventually argued while the vehicle was stopped at East Avenue H and Challenger Way.
According to sheriff’s officials, “At approximately 12:29 a.m., during a heated verbal dispute, both the suspect and the victim exited the vehicle.
The suspect then produced a firearm and shot the victim, resulting in her death.” The suspect fled the scene in Campanor’s vehicle, abandoning her body.
Later, the alleged gunman drove to the home of a relative of Campanor in Palmdale and attempted to take his own life using the victim’s vehicle. He was transported to a hospital with a gunshot wound and is reported to be in critical condition.
