Brandon Franklin Kizer dies in fatal Mesa, AZ shooting
Brandon Franklin Kizer, 35, was identified as the man who was fatally shot by officers at a Mesa apartment complex on Wednesday. The incident occurred near Main Street and Price Road when police responded to a domestic disturbance call just after 6 p.m.
According to authorities, the initial call reported that a man was harming himself, and a follow-up call revealed that the man’s mother had also been stabbed. When officers arrived, they found Kizer holding a knife to his chest and refusing to comply with orders to drop the weapon. Despite the use of non-lethal measures, they were unable to subdue him, leading to the fatal shooting.
Kizer’s mother was located in a nearby apartment and transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No officers were injured in the incident.
The East Valley Critical Incident Response Team, with the Gilbert Police Department leading the investigation, is looking into the shooting. This marks the 33rd officer-involved shooting in the Valley this year and the 57th in Arizona.

I knew Brandon and I can’t believe what happened . I would like to know tho , did the mess police feel threatened did hen Brandon rush at the police with the knife out as if he was going to stab them . What gave mesa police the right to shoot and kill Brandon. If he had a knife at his own chest its no threat to anyone else and just because he didnt drop it doesn’t give rights to go ahead and shoot and kill Brandon . I feel this is not right and should be justified . Brandon’s mother should be paid a good aum for this awful use of weapons on the mesa police aide they did wrong. There was nothing stating he rikushed the cops as if going to stab one of them . This is not justified and I hope someone goes forth and sues the police department for killing this young man who just probably needed help thank you mesa police . Your trigger happy folks aren’t you I hope you get sued for this and I hope who ever shot him is fired from the firce and locked up for murder
