Fatal Skokie vehicle collision death of Carlos Medina – Obituary
Carlos Medina, 37, tragically lost his life after being struck by two vehicles Tuesday night in Skokie. Medina, an electrician with the Chicago Transit Authority, was initially knocked off his bike by a car in the center lane.
He was then hit again by another vehicle in the curb lane, as confirmed by Skokie police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
One driver stayed at the scene of the accident, which occurred on Oakton Street between St. Louis and Central Park avenues, while the other fled eastbound. Authorities described the fleeing vehicle as “dark-colored” but did not provide additional details.
Skokie police have yet to release more information about the type of vehicle involved or the direction Medina was traveling. Patch reached out for further details but had not received a response as of 24 hours later.
Medina, who lived in Logan Square, had recently completed a shift at the Oakton Street CTA maintenance facility, where he had been employed full-time since January.
His sister, Maria Medina, expressed her devastation, urging the hit-and-run driver to come forward and take responsibility. “He wanted to retire with CTA. He was just a good, hardworking guy. It’s unbelievable. Unthinkable,” she told WLS.
Skokie employs over a dozen automated license plate reading cameras, integrated into a suburban network managed by Flock Safety of Atlanta. These cameras assist investigators in tracking and identifying vehicles involved in such incidents.
The North Regional Major Crimes Task Force’s Major Crash Assistance Team has been assigned to the case.
