Creed Jones dies in fatal Ottawa motorcycle collision
Fatal Ottawa motorcycle collision death of Creed Jones – Obituary
In the past week, eastern Ontario has seen a tragic surge in motorcycle accidents. Since July 31, three fatal crashes have occurred in the region, resulting in a total of six fatalities.
Last Wednesday, a collision between a motorcycle and another vehicle in Kingston claimed the lives of both the motorcycle’s driver and passenger.
The following Friday night, a collision involving two motorcycles at the Highway 416/417 interchange in Ottawa resulted in the deaths of two men. Additionally, a crash involving three motorcycles in Faraday, near Bancroft, on Saturday led to two more fatalities.
Among the victims from the Ottawa collision on Friday was 24-year-old Creed Jones, formerly a goalie for the Gatineau Olympiques.
According to Ottawa OPP constable Michael Fathi, witnesses reported that the motorcyclists involved were traveling at high speeds. However, the exact speeds will not be determined until the investigation concludes.
Constable Fathi mentioned that the Ottawa OPP frequently responds to calls about motorcyclists engaging in street racing along Highway 417. These riders often travel in groups, frequently lack license plates, and evade police attempts to stop them.
Fathi noted that pursuits are avoided due to the risks they pose to both the public and the motorcyclists themselves.
While acknowledging that most motorcyclists are responsible and law-abiding, Fathi emphasized the need for all drivers to be vigilant. He urged drivers of passenger vehicles to perform thorough shoulder checks, as motorcycles are smaller and can be less visible.
