Dominic Bard dies in fatal Springfield highway crash

Fatal Springfield highway crash death of Dominic Bard – Obituary

Interstate 91 southbound in Springfield has been reopened following a tragic accident that occurred early Thursday morning, resulting in the closure of the highway for several hours.

Massachusetts State Police report that the incident took place shortly after 2 a.m. near mile marker 4.8, close to the intersection with Broad Street in the South End. According to spokesperson Tim McGuirk, a Toyota Corolla collided with a pedestrian who was crossing the highway.

The deceased has been identified as 54-year-old Dominic Bard from Hartford, Connecticut.

Following the crash, a significant response was mounted involving state troopers from the Springfield Barracks, the Hampden County Detective Unit, the Crime Scene Services Section, the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section, and the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction (CARS) Section. Additionally, workers from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation and Springfield firefighters were on the scene.

For several hours, southbound traffic was rerouted off the highway at Exit 5A and diverted down Hall of Fame Avenue. The highway was reopened to traffic just after 6 a.m.
