The roommate of Merle Southwick, who was discovered shot and killed in his southeast Oklahoma City residence, has been arrested in Colorado in connection with the incident. The Southwick family is left searching for answers regarding the tragic loss of their loved one.
According to an arrest affidavit, 71-year-old Merle Southwick was murdered in his home just days before his brother, Stan Southwick, arrived to pick him up for church and found his body on Sunday.
Stan Southwick expressed his anguish, saying, “He’s always been with me, and I don’t know what I’m going to do now.”
The investigation has revealed that the 64-year-old suspect, who was living with Merle Southwick near Southeast 66th Street and Shields Boulevard, is linked to the crime. The affidavit indicates that there were no indications of forced entry or a disturbance within the house, but a gun was reported missing.
Additionally, the affidavit notes that Merle Southwick’s car title was recently transferred to his roommate’s name, and the suspect allegedly sold the victim’s motorcycle at a pawn shop shortly before the body was discovered.
Annie Sterline, a close friend of Merle Southwick, expressed her sorrow, stating, “I don’t understand it, I just don’t, and it’s very heartbreaking because he didn’t deserve it.”
On Wednesday, an Oklahoma County judge set the suspect’s bond at $10 million.
