Robert Carlos Padilla dies in fatal Scottsdale grocery store shooting
The fatal shooting at an Albertsons in Scottsdale claimed the life of Robert Carlos Padilla, age 35.
On Tuesday evening, Padilla, a Phoenix native, was involved in a heated argument with another man inside the store located near Scottsdale and Thomas roads. The confrontation escalated, leading to both men exchanging gunfire. While no bystanders were harmed, both men were critically injured and transported to the hospital, where Padilla later died from his injuries.
The incident, which prompted multiple 911 calls, initially led police to respond as if it were an active shooter situation. Authorities later determined that the confrontation was an isolated incident involving three men, although the role of the third man remains unclear as detectives continue to investigate. The relationship between Padilla and the other two men has not yet been determined.
