Fatal north Houston shooting claims the life of Jason Henriquez – Obituary
Authorities have identified the victims of a tragic incident in north Houston earlier this week, involving a teen and a child who lost their lives after reportedly playing with a gun.
On Wednesday at around 8:20 p.m., Houston Police Department officers responded to two distressing events: the accidental shooting of 11-year-old Jason Henriquez and the apparent suicide of 17-year-old Christopher Reyes Henriquez, who were relatives.
According to police, the two boys and their 14-year-old family member were handling a gun at an apartment complex on Arto Street. The firearm was brought into the home by Christopher, who likely intended to show it off. He reportedly placed the gun on a bed, at which point the 14-year-old picked it up and, believing it to be unloaded, pulled the trigger. The gun discharged, fatally wounding Jason.
Jason Henriquez was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound to the head, as confirmed by the medical examiner’s office.
Christopher Reyes Henriquez, distressed by the incident, grabbed the gun, ran to a railroad track behind the complex, and shot himself. He was taken to the hospital but did not survive.
The 14-year-old girl involved in the incident was not physically harmed.
Assistant Chief Keith Seafous described the scene as “very tragic” and emphasized the importance of responsible gun ownership, urging gun owners to securely store and lock up firearms to prevent such tragedies.
