On Thursday, officers from the Irvine Police Department (IPD) responded to a report of a violent incident at an Irvine residence, resulting in an officer-involved shooting and the deaths of two individuals.
At around 2:51 p.m., police received a call about a male suspect attacking and “chasing” a woman with a knife outside a home in the University Park area. The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Paul Parvea Montazer, was allegedly assaulting his mother, 72-year-old Parvin Montazer. When officers arrived at the scene on Green Tree Lane, they attempted to intervene and separate the two. According to an IPD press release, the suspect then reportedly advanced toward an officer, prompting police to open fire.
At least one officer discharged their weapon, as reported by the OC Register. Despite receiving immediate medical attention, both the suspect and the victim, who had suffered stab wounds, were pronounced dead at the scene. Video footage from FOXLA captured the aftermath, showing two bodies covered by white tents outside the Irvine residence. A knife was recovered from the scene, and no officers were injured during the incident.
Dave King, a resident of Green Tree Lane, shared with the OC Register that he heard at least six gunshots that afternoon. He mentioned that the suspect, originally from Las Vegas, had recently moved in with family in Irvine after being released from prison.
IPD public information specialist Kyle Oldoerp provided updates on the investigation through an Instagram post on Thursday night, expressing the department’s commitment to thoroughly investigating the tragic incident.
“This is a tragic situation, and our hearts go out to all involved. We are committed to this investigation,” Oldoerp stated.
