Fatal Otter Tail Lake drowning death of David Kantrud – Obituary
David Kantrud, a 63-year-old resident of Fergus Falls, tragically drowned after falling from a pontoon boat on Otter Tail Lake on Saturday.
The incident occurred around 2:34 p.m. on the lake’s northwest side. The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office reported that Kantrud was on the pontoon with his family when he fell into the water while attempting to retrieve an item.
Nearby boaters assisted in pulling Kantrud from the lake, and the Otter Tail County water patrol arrived shortly after, providing emergency aid on the boat as they headed to shore.
Despite their best efforts, Kantrud was declared dead at the scene. Authorities noted that he was not wearing a life jacket when the accident occurred.
