Authorities have confirmed the identity of the 17-year-old who lost his life in a shooting incident that also resulted in injuries to five others over the weekend in south Lubbock County. The shooting took place early Saturday morning.
The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office reported that they were dispatched around 2:58 a.m. to the 9200 block of the U.S. Highway 87 frontage road following reports of gunfire. Upon their arrival, deputies found Dalequavion Barnard York deceased and five other individuals with injuries that were not life-threatening. Three of the injured were transported to nearby hospitals by private vehicles, while the remaining two were taken by ambulance.
Authorities are investigating the situation, which seems to have unfolded near several local clubs. The incident is believed to have started after a confrontation, but further details regarding the motive or suspects are still pending. By Monday afternoon, two individuals had been arrested on unrelated charges, but officials indicated that this shooting appears to be an isolated event with no ongoing threat to the public. The Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit is handling the investigation.
