Montserrat Martorell Elias, 65, was tragically discovered deceased in her Londonderry apartment following a brutal attack and subsequent fire. The incident, which occurred on Harvey Street, has prompted a murder investigation. Authorities have detained a 28-year-old man on suspicion of the crime, and he is currently being questioned at Musgrave Serious Crime Suite.
Firefighters and ambulance services responded to the fire reported at 4:15 a.m. on Saturday. The victim was found in her ground-floor flat’s bedroom and was declared dead at the scene. Detective Chief Inspector Anthony Kelly from the PSNI’s Major Investigation Team reported that the victim had endured severe injuries and a “horrific attack.”
Detective Kelly has urged the public to avoid spreading online speculation that may distress Ms. Elias’ family and hinder the investigation. The police are focusing on finding a white man in his 30s seen in the area between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. wearing a grey hooded jacket, blue jeans, trainers, and a light-colored shirt.
