The incident took place around 10 a.m. on Rime Village Drive.
According to police reports, the situation unfolded when an armed suspect shot at a woman who was in front of a police officer. In response, the officer fired back, resulting in injuries to the suspect, later identified as 38-year-old Naimmikal Sanders from Decatur. Sanders was declared dead at the scene.
Initially, police communicated to WAFF 48 that a man was in custody. However, it was later clarified that Sanders had been killed. Local residents expressed frustration over the confusion and lack of timely information.
Rime Village Drive, known colloquially among residents as “Crime Village,” has a reputation for frequent criminal activity. Many residents confirmed this reputation, noting the area’s troubled history.
The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on leave, though their identity has not been disclosed. Both the Huntsville Police Department and ALEA have yet to release further details about the case.
