Fatal Dale County shooting death of Thomas Dobbs III – Obituary
MIDLAND CITY, Ala. (WDHN) – A fatal shooting occurred Sunday evening in Dale County, resulting in the death of Thomas Dobbs III.
Around 6:20 p.m., deputies responded to a call about a suspicious situation in the 2300 block of South County Road 67, situated between Midland City and Echo.
Dale County Sheriff Mason Bynum reported that officers arrived to find 47-year-old Jason Leger from Midland City armed with a gun. Leger had barricaded himself inside the residence.
After a standoff lasting approximately 20-30 minutes, Leger emerged from the house, laid down his weapon, and surrendered to the authorities.
Upon entering the residence, officers discovered 54-year-old Thomas Dobbs III deceased from multiple gunshot wounds.
Witnesses in the neighborhood mentioned hearing an argument between two men shortly before the shooting, although they did not specify the nature of the dispute. The Dale County Sheriff’s Office has indicated that drugs may have influenced the incident.
South County Road 67 was partially closed Sunday night while deputies investigated the scene.
Leger was taken into custody at the Dale County Jail around midnight on Monday, with no bond set. He faces charges of First Degree Murder.
