Two men who lost their lives in a devastating crash on Canyon Road and 160th Street in Puyallup have been officially named.
The incident, which took place two weeks ago, involved a high-speed collision between a white BMW and a Mercedes sedan, both of which were consumed by flames.
Authorities have identified Jaziel Zepeda, 19, as the driver of the BMW, who was traveling northbound on Canyon Road East. On August 14, Zepeda ran a red light and collided with the Mercedes, driven by 21-year-old Elijah Williams, who was turning left to head south on Canyon Road.
Both vehicles were completely engulfed by fire following the collision. The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office has indicated that Zepeda’s cause of death is still under investigation, pending further information and test results.
In contrast, Williams’ death was confirmed as resulting from blunt trauma and is classified as an accident.
Witnesses reported seeing Zepeda’s BMW racing other cars on Canyon Road, with one 911 caller estimating the car’s speed at 130 miles per hour. Deputies noted that no skid marks were found on the road, suggesting Zepeda did not attempt to brake before the crash, according to Sgt. Darren Moss.
Williams has been remembered as a kind and loving individual, with a GoFundMe campaign set up to support his family with funeral expenses.
