Fatal San Jose wrong-way crash death of Jocelyn Moran and her teenage son – Obituary
On Monday, a tragic wrong-way collision on Highway 85 in San Jose claimed the lives of a mother, Jocelyn Moran, and her 14-year-old son. Moran, 47, and her son, both residents of San Jose, were traveling in a Tesla Model Y when their vehicle was hit head-on by a pickup truck driven by Duncan McQuarrie, 39, of Orlando, Florida. The incident occurred near the Highway 87 split.
According to the California Highway Patrol, McQuarrie was driving a Toyota Tacoma southbound in the northbound lanes of Highway 85 before the crash. Emergency responders arrived at around 3:40 p.m. on Monday after reports of the wrong-way driver.
The collision resulted in the immediate deaths of Moran and her son. McQuarrie sustained severe injuries and was taken to a hospital. As of Tuesday, he remains hospitalized and is under investigation for possible felony manslaughter charges. His previous offenses include driving without a license, possession of cocaine, and drunk driving.
Summit Tahoma High School, where the boy was a freshman, has offered counseling services to students dealing with the devastating news. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the CHP at 408-961-0900.
