Fatal Redding, California DUI crash claims life of Kannon Wayne Chaney – Obituary
The Shasta County Coroner’s Office has confirmed that the passenger who died in a DUI crash in Redding early on Sunday morning was Kannon Wayne Chaney, a 21-year-old resident of Anderson. His family has been notified, and a postmortem examination will be conducted.
The incident occurred on Buenaventura Boulevard near Teton Drive when officers from the Redding Police Department discovered a car fully engulfed in flames at the center of the road. Chaney, who was ejected from the vehicle during the crash, sustained fatal injuries.
The driver, 19-year-old Cristian Bennett of Redding, has been arrested and is currently facing multiple charges, including vehicular manslaughter, DUI causing injury or death, and driving without a license. Another passenger in the vehicle was unharmed and released at the scene. The crash is still under investigation by both the Redding Police Department and the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office.
