An 11-year-old girl, Queen Norwood, has been identified as the victim of a tragic SUV crash that occurred Sunday morning in Stockton.
The incident took place when an SUV carrying several teenagers crashed into a tree on North El Dorado Street, near St. Mary’s High School.
The San Joaquin County Coroner’s Office confirmed Norwood’s identity. She was a student at McKinley Elementary School, as confirmed by the Stockton Unified School District. Superintendent Michelle Rodriguez expressed condolences, stating that the loss deeply affects the SUSD community and that support services are available for students and staff during this difficult time.
According to police, the crash occurred around 7:45 a.m. Sunday. Six minors were found at the scene, including Norwood, a 13-year-old girl, a 13-year-old boy, two 14-year-old girls, and a 15-year-old girl.
Norwood succumbed to her injuries at the hospital, while the other five minors were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Stockton Police Department spokesman Officer Omer Edhah described the situation as deeply troubling, urging the community to be vigilant about where children are and who has access to vehicle keys.
Authorities are investigating the crash, including determining who was driving and the seating arrangement of the minors in the vehicle.
