Authorities have confirmed the identity of the victim in a deadly two-vehicle collision that took place on Saturday, August 24, 2024, near the Village of Luck in Polk County, Wisconsin.
The incident, which occurred at the junction of State Highway 48 and County Highway I, resulted in the death of 56-year-old William Van Heel of Princeton, Minnesota, according to an updated statement from Polk County Sheriff Brent Waak on Wednesday.
The accident occurred around 11:00 a.m. when the Polk County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting the crash. According to the sheriff’s report, a pickup truck with four passengers was traveling northbound on County Highway I when it ran a stop sign. The truck then collided with an eastbound SUV on Highway 48, where Van Heel was a passenger.
Tragically, Van Heel was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was initially withheld until his family was notified.
Several emergency response teams, including the Luck Fire Department, Northwestern Municipal EMS, Lakes Region EMS, Wisconsin State Patrol, and the Polk County Medical Examiner, responded to the scene.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the Wisconsin State Patrol, is continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash. No further information is available at this time.
