Austin police have identified Adrian Lopez, 39, as the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred at an apartment complex on South Pleasant Valley Road on Monday afternoon. Officers were dispatched to the Waterloo Flats complex around 2 p.m. following a report from a complex employee who had been attacked.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Lopez, who was in his 40s, with a gunshot wound. Despite efforts to save him, Lopez was declared dead at the scene. Investigators learned that Lopez had assaulted the complex employee and threatened him with pepper spray before the employee shot him in self-defense.
The relationship between Lopez and the employee remains unknown, and no charges have been filed as the investigation continues.
