**Fatal Poconos drowning death of Baruch Ber Ziemba – Obituary**
Baruch Ber Ziemba, a 39-year-old from Lakewood, New Jersey, tragically drowned while attempting to rescue his children in the Delaware River on Monday. Ziemba, who was vacationing in the Poconos with his wife and seven children, was on a boat when two of his kids began struggling in the water. He managed to save them but was then pulled under by a wave.
National Park Service rangers and dive team members from the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area responded to the emergency call at 1:45 p.m. The search teams recovered Ziemba’s body by 3:07 p.m., approximately 20 to 30 feet from the shore in seven feet of water.
The beaches at Delaware Gap National Recreation Area, where this incident occurred, do not have lifeguards and operate on a ‘swim at your own risk’ basis. This drowning marks the second such incident at the park this summer, following a similar event on June 29 when a 24-year-old man also drowned. The National Park Service urges swimmers to use guarded beaches due to the hazardous conditions of the Delaware River.
