A tragic incident occurred at Lake Waxahachie in Texas when Lincer Lopez, aged 21, lost his life while attempting to rescue 15-year-old Genesis Delgado, who was in distress. The church group had gathered at the lake for baptisms on Saturday. An hour after his baptism, Lopez drowned while trying to save Delgado, according to local police reports.
Delgado had ventured into a deeper part of the lake after the group’s baptism ceremony in shallow water. She struggled to stay afloat and began drowning. A nearby boater, Jacob Bell, eventually rescued her and administered CPR before transporting her to a medical facility.
Lopez was also retrieved from the water and taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. His heroic efforts were recognized by Delgado, who expressed deep gratitude and sorrow for his passing. She thanked Lopez for his bravery and conveyed her condolences to his family.
A GoFundMe campaign has been established to assist in repatriating Lopez’s body to his hometown in Chiapas, Mexico. The fundraiser has garnered over $34,000 in support.
Lopez’s family, who described him as a hero, shared that he worked diligently to support them from abroad. His uncle, Jacobo Lopez, praised his selflessness and courage.
The boater who aided Delgado, Jacob Bell, has called for increased safety measures at Lake Waxahachie, such as lifeguards or park officials, to prevent future tragedies.
The city acknowledged the call for enhanced safety but noted existing precautions, including signage and life jacket provisions.
Waxahachie is located approximately 30 miles from Dallas.
