A tragic incident unfolded on Monday when a 3-year-old boy, identified as Julian Wood, was fatally stabbed outside a Giant Eagle supermarket in North Olmsted, a suburb of Cleveland. The attack also resulted in injuries to the boy’s mother. Authorities report that the violence appears to have been unprovoked.
The assault occurred in the grocery store’s parking lot, and police were alerted shortly after 3 p.m. Multiple 911 calls reported the stabbing. Upon arrival, officers provided first aid to the child and his 38-year-old mother. Witnesses described the suspect, leading to the immediate arrest of the alleged attacker, Bionca Ellis, 32, from Cleveland.
Ellis is charged with aggravated murder, and additional charges will be determined by a grand jury. The boy and his mother were transported to a hospital; however, the boy succumbed to his injuries while his mother was treated and later released.
The cause and manner of the child’s death are pending autopsy results, and the investigation is ongoing. North Olmsted Mayor Nicole Dailey Jones expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as a random act of violence.
Ellis remains in custody at the North Olmsted City Jail, awaiting her court appearance. As of now, no attorney has been publicly associated with her case.
Giant Eagle has expressed its grief and support for the affected family and community, offering counseling services and assistance during this difficult time.
