On August 17, Gainesville police were called to the Haven Inn & Suites for a welfare check and discovered 60-year-old Wade Hitcher from California, who had died from blunt force trauma. The investigation led police to identify 39-year-old Keith Bryant of Gainesville as the suspect in Hitcher’s death.
Later that day, the Hall County Sheriff’s Office reported that Bryant had been struck and killed by a train. Authorities suspect that Bryant, after committing the crime, deliberately walked into the train’s path.
