The Carthage community is mourning the loss of Kelly Duarte, known for her vibrant presence and dedication to her family. Her father, Kenny Stewart, expressed his deep sorrow, reflecting on her role as a loving mother and cherished family member. “It was just a joy seeing her grow up. We hunted. We fished. We have done so much together, and as a parent, she’s one of the best mothers you could ever see,” Stewart said.
Duarte leaves behind four children, who were reportedly in the house at the time of the incident. Her aunt, Cynthia Danevich, voiced the family’s frustration and desire for clarity. “You got four children, they are going to be without a mother… And it may, could have been avoided. That’s what we want to know,” she stated.
According to the Leake County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrived at the scene around 4 p.m. on August 24 and found Kelly Duarte and Reynaldo Duarte, who was reportedly hanged. The third individual, Robert Walker, was also found deceased. The case remains under investigation, and the sheriff’s office has not yet released further details.
The family is determined to uncover the circumstances surrounding the tragic event, with Stewart expressing his anguish over the impact on the children. “This little boy screaming, ‘Momma!’ I can’t take that. You know, I’m having to listen to that when they could have stopped it or prevented it, you know?” he said.
The sheriff’s office has yet to provide a detailed statement as the investigation continues.
