Mitch East, a 28-year-old lawyer, tragically lost his life in an early morning suspected hit-and-run incident in Sydney. The incident occurred on Fletcher Street, Tamarama, around 4 a.m. on Sunday. Authorities are actively seeking the driver of a white Subaru Outback believed to be involved in the collision.
NSW Police Inspector Jason Hogan has appealed to the driver to come forward, describing the act of fleeing the scene as “cowardly.” He urged the driver to report to a local police station before they are tracked down.
East, originally from New Zealand, was a respected member of the Sydney firm Arnold Bloch Leibler. The firm issued a statement mourning his loss, praising him as a highly talented and valued lawyer whose absence will be deeply felt. The partners extended their condolences to East’s family, partner, and close friends.
Previously, East served as a senior advisor in the New Zealand Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Christchurch Terrorist Attack. Law Professor Andrew Geddis from the University of Otago remarked on East’s exceptional intellect, noting his scholarship offers from prestigious institutions like Harvard and Cambridge.
