Fatal Carson shooting death of Raymond Maose – Obituary**
On Tuesday, Aman was detained in connection with a potentially gang-related shooting that resulted in the deaths of two men in Carson.
According to Los Angeles County sheriff’s Lt. Steven De Jong, Raymond Maose, 22, was arrested following the incident, which occurred around 11:35 p.m. Saturday in the 100 block of West 234th Street. The sheriff’s department had not yet confirmed the arrest.
The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner later identified the second victim as Va’afatu Mativa, 18, from Gardena. Mativa had recently undergone a kidney transplant, as reported by his father. The other deceased individual was identified as Richard Mata, 44, of Carson.
De Jong reported that Mata was sitting in his vehicle when he fired shots at Mativa, who was standing nearby. Maose then returned fire, hitting Mata. Mata’s vehicle subsequently rolled forward and collided with a parked car on the 100 block of East 234th Street.
Investigators suspect the shooting might be gang-related, but the exact motive remains unclear. Both Mativa and Mata were pronounced dead at the scene.
A GoFundMe page set up by Mata’s family to cover funeral expenses described him as “a loving son, brother, uncle, godfather, and friend” and highlighted his deep love for his three children.
