Rebecca Olsen, a 47-year-old resident of San Jose, was tragically killed in a wrong-way collision on Highway 85 on Monday. The Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office identified Olsen on Wednesday.
The crash, which also claimed the life of a 14-year-old boy who was in the vehicle with Olsen, occurred around 3:40 p.m. when the California Highway Patrol began receiving reports of a pick-up truck speeding in the wrong direction on northbound Highway 85, near Saratoga Avenue. Approximately ten minutes later, the truck collided head-on with the Tesla carrying Olsen and her young passenger.
The driver of the pick-up truck, identified as 39-year-old Duncan McQuarrie, was severely injured and hospitalized. Authorities have announced plans to recommend felony manslaughter charges against McQuarrie to the district attorney’s office.
